Something I’ve always wrestled with is how to label and describe what I do for a living. For me, it all boils down to a love of technology with a focus on internet and related technologies. I’ve always summed myself up as an internet programmer, but never fealt it really did me any justice.

Having a vague title of internet programmer is something a very select few would actually get. Unfortunately, the only people who really got what I meant by that are the ones that I have enough history with, they already know what internet tricks I have up my sleeves. In that small circle, there’s really no need for a title like that to begin with.

Tonight on the plane ride home from Atlanta a new title hit me – Multi-Tier Internet Programmer.

I’m still kicking the tires on this title, but it’s the most accurate one I’ve come up with to date. It’s really hard trying to tell people I do client, mid-tier, and server side in a fashion people will truly understand. Saying I do flash, flex, javascript, asp, asp.net, coldfusion, php, mssql, mysql and other related technologies is a mouthful. Not to mention it doesn’t always get to the point of what I’m looking to do.

I love the internets, and I want to keep on doing the internet thing. I’m thinking multi-tier internet programmer is going to be the new tagline for a while.
